The Man

Since their inception, a considerable number of students have had difficulty passing state achievement and graduation tests.  In particular, many students find the short-answer and extended response questions on state achievement tests challenging.  Complete and accurate answers to these written responses require higher order thinking skills.  These skills allow the students to read, process, and apply the given information in order to articulate a detailed written response.

Jan Mitchell, a 37-year veteran teacher, responded to the difficulties that her students experienced by developing The Man: The Anatomy of Writing.  The Man introduces one simple concept that students can easily understand and apply using the human anatomy, the head and limbs, as a blueprint to organize and construct their reply to short-answer and extended response questions.

The Man prepares students for completely and accurately responding to short-answer and extended response questions on state achievement and graduation tests.

Classroom Management for Academic Achievement

Needless to say, the impact of effective instruction on student academic and social achievement has been well documented.  As a result, the purpose of this program focuses on helping teachers create and foster a learning environment where expectations are clear and students are motivated to succeed.
